Nashville Symphony 2000
Press Announcement / Concept / Writing / Design
The Nashville Symphony was adding musicians. The announcement arrived with a chair.
As part of its Symphony 2000 campaign, the orchestra planned to add sixteen players. The challenge was to make that expansion tangible—and give local newsrooms something more interesting than another press release.
The solution arrived in a mailing tube. Inside was an architectural-style blueprint of the proposed seating arrangement and a miniature wooden folding chair. An instruction on the drawing explained the assembly: Insert 16 chairs and fill with top-quality orchestral musicians.
Conceived, written, designed, and produced as a hand-delivered press announcement, the piece earned media coverage and received a Parthenon Award.
